The article is devoted to the range of library activities held by the employees of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the Scientific Library of Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University aiming at promoting the Ukrainian book stored in the University library fund.
In the article, the term «book promotion» is interpreted as the popularization of the Ukrainian book and its author, the demand for the book among library users, which is implemented in the form of a system of library activities. Dealing with Ukrainian studies, the employees of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts carry out the following tasks: study and comprehensive research of the repertoire of Ukrainian books and periodicals, the development of scientific historical and bibliographic research on Ukrainian and regional studies, participation in creation of national bibliography of Ukraine, information disclosure of stocks, expositions and exhibition activities.
Today’s realities and challenges have dramatically changed the conditions for functioning of educational institutions including libraries. However, the staff of the Department of Rare Books and Manuscripts of the University library go on working on the promotion of the Ukrainian book.
